In the past year or 2 there hasn’t been a single hip hop artist that has had more of a meteoric rise than Kendrick Lamar which has never been more evident last night at his TWO sold out shows here in Houston. Back in 2010 Scoremore brought Kendrick to Houston for the first time and he played a fairly full Studio stage at Warehouse Live, then in January played the ballroom stage at Warehouse, all leading up to last night’s TDE takeover that started at Warehouse Live and ended at the most packed House of Blues show I have ever seen. Kendrick almost went through a timeline of his career for these shows last night with cuts from some of his earliest projects before performing songs from his Certified Gold Debut, Good Kidd Maad City. The Warehouse Live show had no openers other than the single greatest live DJ in the world, DJ Mr. Rogers. I left after about half of Kendrick’s set at Warehouse Live and headed over to House of Blues to make sure that I was good to go since a line had been forming as early as 8pm when the doors didn’t even open until 11. Unlike the Warehouse show, this show was opened by the beautiful Jhene Aiko who captivated the crowd with her amazing voice in a performance that involved a GREAT cover of “Keep Ya Head Up” by Tupac. All in all, these shows were amazing and lived up to every single expectation after the original show was postponed a few months back. Scoremore does it again.
